Your Privacy Matters
At ANIV, we are committed to protecting your personal information and being open about how we use it. This page explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
The Association of Nigerians in Victoria (ANIV) is a community organisation. We collect information to support your membership, connect our community, and deliver the programs you care about — nothing more. This page is written in plain language so you always know where things stand.
Information We Collect
ANIV collects information that you provide directly through our forms — such as your name, email address, phone number, city, and details relevant to your membership type or request. This helps us manage your membership, communicate with you, and deliver the programs and services you sign up for.
For membership applications, we ask for your birth month and day only — not your birth year. This allows us to celebrate your birthday and confirm age-related eligibility without collecting more personal information than necessary. Some older member records created before this change may contain a full date of birth; we are working to reduce that legacy data over time.
How Your Information Is Protected
Your member information is kept private and is accessed only by authorised ANIV administrators and volunteers for legitimate ANIV purposes — such as managing your membership, processing payments, sending communications, and coordinating community support.
We do not sell your personal information. To operate the platform, certain trusted third-party services may process your information when needed for ANIV operations — for example, our payment provider processes transactions and our email delivery service sends messages on our behalf. These services handle only what is necessary to perform their function for ANIV.
Member Directory & Verification
The ANIV member directory is opt-in. Your profile details are only included if you actively consent, and the directory is visible only to eligible ANIV members who have been authenticated. It is never published publicly.
ANIV's member verification feature lets a member confirm that another person is an active ANIV member. Verification shows only the limited details a member has chosen to share — it confirms membership status and nothing more. It is not an endorsement, guarantee, or recommendation of any person or business.
Payments & Card Details
Membership fees, event tickets, and business listing payments are handled securely through our payment provider, Stripe. ANIV does not store your full card details — card information is entered directly on Stripe's secure checkout page and is processed by Stripe under their security standards.
Your Rights — Access, Correction & Deletion
You have the right to request access to the personal information ANIV holds about you, to ask that incorrect information be corrected, or to request deletion of your information where appropriate. We will respond to your request in a timely manner, subject to any legal or operational obligations we may have (such as retaining financial records).
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details below.
Contacting ANIV About Privacy
If you have any questions about how your information is handled, or if you would like to request access, correction, or deletion of your data, please reach out:
- • By email: contact ANIV or write to info@anivbc.org
- • Through the Contact page on this website
We are committed to being transparent and responsive. If something is unclear or you have a concern, please let us know — we want to hear from you.
Profile Photos
A profile photo is entirely optional. If you choose to upload one, it is stored securely and used only for member identification by ANIV administrators — it is never shown publicly. Uploading a photo requires your explicit consent, and you can withdraw that consent and request removal of your photo at any time from your member portal or by contacting ANIV.
Email & Communications
As part of running your membership, ANIV sends you transactional emails — such as membership confirmations, payment receipts, event tickets, and volunteer shift confirmations. These are essential to the service and are sent regardless of marketing preferences.
Community updates, newsletters and promotional messages are separate. We only send these when you have given communication consent, and you can opt out at any time from your member portal or by contacting us. Opting out of community emails does not affect the transactional messages you need to manage your membership.
Thank you for trusting ANIV with your information. We take that responsibility seriously.
